Cox Communications, which pioneered the "triple play" in the cable market, will launch a quad option to include wireless services in a bundle along with the existing cable TV, phone and Internet, Media Post reported Monday.
The new services will hit the market next year - users will be able to subscribe to all four and pay one bill.
Cox will partner with Sprint for the wireless offering, according to Media Post.
"Wireless service will be a key driver to Cox's future growth," said president of Cox Communications Pat Esser.
Besides the partnership with Sprint, Cox is developing its own wireless service, which is expected to launch next year as well. The Sprint link helps it to "quickly enter the market," said the company, according to Media Post.
Cox's adoption of a wireless offering shows the service provider's aggressiveness as consumers increasingly communicate and consume content on the go, according to Media Post. It is a crucial topic for cable companies as they are now competing with Verizon and AT&T, since both telecom companies are launching TV services and already have wireless offerings.
Cox's "triple play" bundle was launched in 1997.
