Free daily launches in Egypt

Egypt's first free daily launched earlier this year, Newspaper Innovation reported on Monday, citing a report from a reader. The newspaper, 24 Hours, began circulating in Cairo, likely in the spring.

Although newspapers in Egypt do not have official circulation figures, 24 Hours' circulation is estimated by some to be at 50,000, but by others to be at 15,000, Newspaper Innovation stated.

24 Hours is distributed by being handed out in the streets and through delivery.

Samir Ragab is the newspaper's chairman of the board, and previously served as board chairman of state newspaper Al-Gomhoria, Newspaper Innovation reported.

The newspaper's Web site makes each page of the print version available online. Each article can be zoomed in on, and easily printed and cut out.
