BBC may share content, develop metadata standards

In the future, the BBC may share content with other news outlets as well as take a lead in developing industry standards for metadata, Pete Clifton, head of multimedia at the BBC, told the Society of Editors conference, Journalism.co.uk reported Monday.

The sharing of video content has already been addressed within the BBC, and is a “well articulated part” of the group's plan for local online video.

“The BBC could play an important role in common metadata strategies and the way we share and corral our content together,” Clifton told the conference, according to Journalism.co.uk. “The technical know-how and wider clout that we (the BBC) have, could have some benefit to industry as a whole.”
