Television viewership in the top four networks in the United States is slowing, the latest Nielsen Media Research data shows, Media Week reported Thursday.

Although its numbers are down, CBS won out in the U.S. network battle as the most-watched network between Oct. 30 and Nov. 12 (known as the sweeps period) with 11.33 million viewers, 470,000 more viewers than second-place ABC, according to Nielsen Media Research data. ABC has 10.86 million viewers, while NBC has 8.11 million. In fourth place is News Corp.-owned Fox, with 6.72 million.

ABC is the first in adults ages 18 to 49 and adults 25 to 54, while ABC and NBC are tied for the top spot among adults ages 18 to 34, MediaWeek reported.

Fox viewership is down the most by margins of 15 to 19 percent. The CW has also declined by double-digit percentages, excluding a flat performance among adults ages 18 to 34.

CBS is down 8 percent from last year, ABC is down 5 percent, NBC is down 3 percent, Fox is down 17 percent and the CW is down 24 percent, Media Week reported.

While ABC, CBS and NBC all have a history of national news programmes in the morning and evening, Fox has local news stations at affiliates across the country, but does not have a national news programme, and the CW has no local or national news programming.
