Global mobile messaging revenues are expected to grow from US$66 billion in 2006 to $100.7 billion in 2010, according to a Frost & Sullivan's study, commissioned by mobile open application platform Funambol, SFN's World Digital Media Trends 2008 reported.
In 2006, nearly 70 percent of the revenues came from SMS, which accounted for $45 billion. In 2010, although SMS is expected to continue retaining the lion's share, its revenues are actually not expected to grow much, totalling a projected $47 billion.
MMS and e-mail, in 2010, are predicted to rank in the second and the third spots, with revenues of $23.4 billion and $16.5 billion, respectively, according to Frost & Sullivan.
Mobile IM, however, is forecast to grow rapidly from $2 billion in 2006 to $15 billion in 2010, with a CAGR of more than 65 percent, according to the report, World Digital Media Trends 2008, released by SFN and the World Association of Newspapers.
