Nokia launches cross-platform messaging and mail

Nokia launched Nokia Messaging and Mail on Ovi Tuesday, the company announced in a press release. The messaging service allows users to access e-mail, including Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL Mail and thousands of others on most Nokia devices. Mail on Ovi enables PC users to create and access Ovi e-mail accounts, as well as have cross access to other Ovi services through one account.

"In response to overwhelming consumer feedback that messaging is a critical, must-have feature, Nokia has responded with solutions to bring messaging to the broadest range of devices and to ensure the service works with the most popular messaging services in the market," said Nokia Services & Software Senior Vice President Tom Furlong.

Nokia Messaging will initially be commercially launched in the beginning of 2009 across Australia, Finland, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Venezuela and Singapore. However, the feature is already available as a "limited-period beta trial" for owners of Nokia E71 and Nokia N95 models, the press release stated.
