The United Kingdom's tabloid newspaper Mail On Sunday has launched a record label, NME reported Tuesday. The label, Mail On Sunday Sounds, may "put something back" into the music industry, said Editor Peter Wright.
"I think that if we can move into original content in the long run that will be more exciting. It is closer to what we do in the newspaper - we don't publish other people's stories. We are original content providers. If we can move into that area with music, it is very exciting," Wright said.
The first song to be released on the label is ACM Gospel Choir's version of "Holy Night," which came out on Monday. Wright mentioned that he hoped the track will be nominated for the Christmas Number One, according to NME.
In the past, Mail On Sunday gave away free copies of Prince's "Planet Earth" album and McFly's "Radio Active."
