The Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced it will cut 56 full-time and 100 part-time jobs in the circulation unit, according to a WWD Media report Friday.
The paper will also reduce distribution by 5 percent in its metro Atlanta area. "Like many other media companies, the AJC faces unprecedented economic challenges. We are committed to making our operations as efficient as possible, and these changes support that goal," said Robert W. Eickhoff, senior vice president of operations.
This is AJC's third announcement of jobs cuts since 2007, WWD Media reported.
Overall readership is not likely to be impacted significantly, according to the company, as it is measured by readers instead of distributed copies. AJC's circulation dropped to 274,999 in a six-month period ending in September, down 13.6 percent drop year-over-year, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, WWD Media reported.
Cox Enterprises Inc. said earlier this month that it will combine its three media units, Cox Newspapers, Cox Radio and Cox Television, into a new company named Cox Media Group next month, according to WWD Media.
