The South China Morning Post, the leading English-language title in Hong Kong, cut 30 jobs Friday, in order to restructure and weather the global economic recession, The Associated Press reported.
It is not yet clear how many editorial jobs were impacted. According to a source who would only give her surname, Chan, told the AP that the company did not rule out the possibility of additional layoffs.
"Every company is trying to broaden sources of income and cut costs ... layoffs are our last resort," said Chan, according to the AP article posted on Forbes.
The South China Morning Post is one of two English-language dailies published in Hong Kong, and has about 900 staffers, the AP reported.
