Yahoo buys stake in Indian phone directory search company

Yahoo has acquired a 30 percent stake in Info Network Management Company (INMAC), an Indian company in the telephone directory search market, PC World reported.

According to Keith Nilsson, senior vice president and head of emerging markets at Yahoo, this deal will allow users in India to access information about local businesses and services through Yahoo Web sites as well as by phone through the Call Ezee service offered by INMAC.

Other than data integration of the two companies' lists, Yahoo also plans to seek for other ways of integrating the business models of INMAC and Yahoo, according to Nilsson, PC World reported.

Although the amount of money paid for the stake was not disclosed, the deal offers Yahoo representation on INMAC's board. The two companies also have a revenue-sharing agreement, added Nilsson.

With current coverage in 14 cites across India, Call Ezee allows users to call from mobile or fixed line, and request contact information of a business, PC World reported.

INMAC expects the funding from Yahoo could help its development in technology, as it seeks to triple its reach in the country over the next two years, the company said.
