Metro to cut UK jobs

Metro to cut UK jobs

UK freesheet Metro will cut up to 10 employees and terminate the services of about 30 casuals, a spokeswoman for the Daily Mail & General Trust subsidiary Associated Newspapers confirmed to MediaGuardian.

This action followed an announcement in October that the title intended to lay off some employees to streamline the business in order to face the tough market next year.

MediaGuardian reported that it "understands that the cuts could affect those working on its arts and entertainment section, MetroLife, and some of the paper's regional offices."

DMGT said in November that it plans to cut up to 400 jobs, most of which expected in its regional publishing business, Northcliffe Media, MediaGuardian reported.
