Worldwide, free dailies grew from 2001 to 2005, in terms of circulation as well as in title numbers, according to World Press Trends 2006, SFN's New Print Products reported.
In 2001, there were 80 free dailies in total around the globe. The number kept increasing and exceeded 100 in 2003. In 2005, there were a total of 189 free titles.
The circulation of free dailies was also rising, according to World Press Trends 2006. The overall daily circulation reached nearly 11.9 million in 2001. In 2005, it grew over twofold to 28.1 million, according to the report, New Print Products, released by SFN and the World Association of Newspapers.
