Nationally audited newspapers in Scotland saw no improvement year-over-year in January, with the country's top-performing paper seeing a 9.34 percent fall from January 2008, Press Gazette reported Friday.
The Scotsman's January 2008 circulation was at 55,766, and this year fell to 50,558. Even worse, in January 2007, the title's circulation was at 60,627 - a circulation loss of nearly 10,000 in just two years.
Circulation at The Herald was down 9.7 percent, to 60,976 in January. At the same time in 2008, circulation was at 67,528. The Daily Record's circulation dropped from 393,788 to 354,302 from January 2008 to January 2009, while its January 2007 circulation was at 418,618, according to Press Gazette.
Sunday titles were also down: the Sunday Herald was down 12.25 percent, to 45,406 from 51,744; Scotland on Sunday dropped 14.61 percent year-over-year, from 75,535 to 64,502; and The Sunday Mail was down 9.4 percent, to 442,103 in January 2009, Press Gazette reported, citing ABC data.
