French Sunday paper Le Journal du Dimanche introduced a Saturday edition on Saturday, March 7, available in Paris as well as a handful of surrounding cities, Le Monde reported Friday.
Editor Christian de Villeneuve told Le Monde that the decision to launch a Saturday edition is because "Saturday is a big shopping day when a lot of consumers come in contact with newspapers, whether in newsstands or shopping centres."
The Sunday edition will continue to be published, with 15 of its pages being "refreshed" from the Saturday edition. The printing test will run until June 27 and will be adopted permanently pending positive results.
