Ballot called at Scotland's Daily Record, Sunday Mail

In the wake of Trinity Mirror's plans to merge production of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, which could lead to 70 job losses, ballots will be sent Friday to union members on whether to strike or take lesser measures, allmediaScotland reported.

The move has also been initiated because some of the job cuts may be compulsory; however, the company has said its goal is that all downsizing will be done on a voluntary basis.

"We are working with the union - day-by-day, hour-by-hour - to achieve redundancies via voluntary means," said Mark Hollinshead, Trinity Mirror's managing director, according to allmediaScotland.

Ttrhe National Union of Journalists does not expect as many voluntary redundancies as the company is looking for. The union also expressed concerns about tougher work routines for the remaining staff, allmediaScotland reported.
