As part of U.S. publisher McClatchy Co.'s restructuring scheme that included cutting 1,600 jobs across its newspapaers, The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer has announced it will cut 20 staff positions, Macon.com reported Thursday. The cutbacks mark the third time in less than a year the company has reduced staff numbers.
Meanwhile, McClatchy paper the Miami Herald will lose 175 employees in this round of cuts, as well as leave 30 vacant positions unfilled. The Kansas City Star will cut 150 positions, or 15 percent of its workforce. Full restructuring plan details were announced March 9 in a McClatchy press release, which stated that "each newspaper will determine how best to implement the savings in its market, while retaining its strategic focus on sales, news and online operations."
