The Lexington Newspaper Guild has agreed to allow the Lexington Herald-Leader to cut 14 union-covered jobs in its newsroom, as well as cut wages by percent for all Guild-covered workers, The Seattle Times reported Thursday.
The cuts follow the paper's parent company, McCLatchy Co.'s, announced restructuring plan that includes cutting its workforce by 15 percent, totalling approximately 1,600 jobs.
The union also approved a week-long, unpaid furlough for union-covered employees, which make up 75 full and part-time employees at the Lexington, Kentucky newspaper.
