Three of California's free dailies, the Burlingame Daily News, the San Mateo Daily News and the Redwood City Daily News, have shut down, Newspaper Innovation reported. Combined circulation for the dailies was about 30,000
Other California dailies have been forced to curtail publishing, such as the Palo Alto Daily News, which has ceased printing its Sunday edition and scaled publishing back to five days a week, while also cutting total pages.
The areas served by the shuttered dailies will now be covered by a paper called the Daily News, whose masthead advertises coverage of "The Peninsula" including Palo Alto, Redwood City, Mountain View and Stanford.
