Cutbacks and closures for Reno paper

Cutbacks and closures for Reno paper

The Reno Gazette-Journal plans to lay off 35 employees, totalling approximately 10 percent of its staff, The Associated Press reported. The paper has also announced it will close its weekly paper, the Carson Times, on April 17.

The restructuring follows 61 jobs eliminated in the end of last year and the closure of two other Nevada weekly papers. Gazette-Journal publisher Ted Powers said employees affected by the cutbacks were offered severance packages relative to their years of employment at the paper.
