StreetWise seeks donations to stay open

Chicago weekly StreetWise, sold by the homeless, may have to cease publication within the next two weeks unless it can raise US$75,000 in donations, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The non-profit StreetWise Inc. converted its newspaper to a glossy magazine in November, a move the Executive Director Bruce Crane said increased advertising. However, the publication relies on charity for half of its $500,000 a year budget and Crane said current economic conditions have left the magazine short of donations.

StreetWise began publication in August 1992 as a way for Chicago's destitute to earn a living.
