Huffingtonn Post goes hyperlocal in NY

Huffingtonn Post goes hyperlocal in NY

The Huffington Post and its new CEO Eric Hippeau will launch a site for local news reporting in New York that will consist of a "curated selection of the best New York news coverage, plus a collection of bloggers" according to Ariana Huffington, the site's Editor-in-Chief, paidContent reported.

The New York Observer, Gotham Gazette and the Brooklyn Rail are some of the local news sources that will be included in the collaboration with the Huffington Post. Not included in the list is the New York Times, which is also experimenting with local reporting sites of its own.

The move to hyper-local coverage is becoming a trend for the Huffington Post, which launched a local Chicago edition in August of last year. The Chicago site has recently teamed up with ESPNChicago.com which will help it generate content regarding local sports teams.

In an article posted on HuffPost NY, special projects senior editor Katharine Zaleski wrote that the site would not only promote local news sites but would also be "exploring with our partners other creative ways to make sure no important news is left uncovered."
