Two newspapers in upstate New York have eliminated one day each from their daily production schedules, Editor & Publisher reported Wednesdy.
The Tonawanda News and The Journal-Register of Medina, have dropped one day from their publishing schedules.
The News dropped its Monday edition on July 6th and now publishes Tuesday through Saturday. The Journal-Register has stopped its Tuesday paper and now publishes four days a week - Monday and Wednesday through Friday.
Both papers are published by Greater Niagara Newspapers, a division of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. who also owns owns two other papers in the region -- the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal and the Niagara Gazette.
"I can't speak for the Tonawanda newspaper, but we just felt [cutting back one edition] was the correct action for our organization to take from a financial standpoint," Diane Crowe, publisher of The Journal-Register said.
Six-day publication at the Lockport and Niagara papers will remain. Sunday editions at regional papers in the Tonawanda, Lockport, and Niagara will also be unaffected.
