San Francisco Chronicle launches 2-page weather section

Hearst Corp.'s San Francisco Chronicle has launched a two-page weather section in partnership with online weather service Weather underground, according to a press release.

The new section will be part of the Chronicle's "high-definition" newspaper, and will rely on the Weather Underground to "develop a new weather service that takes advantage of the presses' reproduction quality and color capabilities."

The double page weather section will be included in the Chronicle's Sunday edition, displaying a map of the Bay Area with weather reports, summaries of local earthquake activity, and detailed maps of the city of San Francisco.

Weather and related topics are more sought-after news in San Francisco compared to other areas, due to the fog and earthquake activity. The Chronicle also is also using the extra space on the large maps to give information on local events taking place each day, so readers can pair their activities with the day's weather, according to the release.
