According to a study conducted by IDATE, the 2G network is highly penetrated in the countries surveyed, with 100 percent reach in the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy, and more than 95 percent penetration in other countries, SFN's Winning Mobile Strategies reported.
3G in Japan also has 100 percent penetration, the highest in all the countries. The United Kingdom is next, with 92 percent 3G penetration. In other countries, the reach is around 70 percent to 80 percent.
High Speed Packet Access (HSPA), a standard that improves the end-user experience by increasing peak data rates, is quite popular in the European countries surveyed and Japan, according to IDATE. The United Kingdom leads with 87 percent reach, while in other countries reach is between 70 percent to 80 percent. In the United States, reach is relatively lower, at only 15 percent, according to the report, Winning Mobile Strategies, released by SFN and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.
