El Dia, the Spanish-language daily paper that served the Houston Hispanic community, was forced into closure last week, khou.com reported Sunday.
The end of El Dia leaves the city's large Spanish-speaking population without a newspaper after the last edition was published on August 28th.
Carlos Munoz, a former El Dia reporter, said the newspapers had become just too expensive to publish.
The newspaper was launched in 1982 and was a link to Latin American news for Hispanics living in Houston.
The city will continue to be served by Spanish-language classified publication La Subasta and weekly paper La Semana.
