News Corp. launches global service to link internal outlets

News Corp. is launching a global service, which puts its news stories and videos instantly on its entire network, available for any outlet, such as TV, print and online, the Guardian reported.

The wire service, called NewsCore, is described as a "21st-century multi-media information service that will draw on the worldwide news and sports resources within News Corporation and make them available to other News properties everywhere."

"When Sky News reports that Gordon Brown has called an election, everyone in the NWS family can run with it. When TG24 learns that Vesuvius has blown its top again, everyone in NewsCorp will have it. Immediately. And from a source we can trust - us," according to an internal briefing from News Corp., the Guardian reported.

The service will scan all the electronic story queues, satellite feeds and Web sites and make them available to the company's newsrooms staff around the world. It will distribute text, video, audio as well as citizen journalism in real time.

According to the Guardian, NewsCore will be based in New York, and is recruiting journalists for New York City, London and Asia. In the United Kingdom, the operation will be located at BSkyB's headquarters in Osterley.

The date for the project launch has not yet been set.
