An early morning fire of unknown origin gutted a newspaper warehouse in a suburb of New Delhi, The Indo-Asian News Service today reported. A dozen fire teams responded to the incident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m. in Noida, a city in Uttar Pradesh province, Asian News International reported today.
Arun Singh, general manager of Dainik Jagran, said the Hindi-language newspaper's parent company, Jagran Prakashan Ltd., sustained heavy losses as a result, Press Trust of India today reported. With a daily circulation of 2.3 million readers, Dainik Jagran - or The Truth in English - has grown in recent years into one of the five most widely-read newspapers in India, according to Financial Times.
