Microsoft to launch new search engine

Microsoft is set to reveal its new Internet search engine at next week's "All Things Digital" technology conference in California, the Hindustan Times reported on Monday.

The software giant is hoping to make inroads into search engine guru Google's, domination of the of the profitable Internet search market. Code-named Kumo, the new design is set to cut down search times by categorising results. 
Recent statistics from comScore showed Google expanding its already significant majority of search engine use. According to comScore, 64.2 percent of searches conducted by Americans were done with Google, a 0.5 percent increase from March.

Yahoo! lost 0.1 percent to a 20.4 percent market share. Microsoft also fell 0.1 percent to 8.2 percent.

Microsoft is set to embark on a massive promotional effort for the new search engine, according to the Hindustan Times.

The newspaper also revealed that Microsoft and Yahoo! are continuing discussions of a potential search engine collaboration.
