Online recruiting ads stablised
The shrinking online job market in the United States seems to be flat at about 3.23 million advertised job postings a month, according to a report released by the Conference Board, Information Week reported Monday.
Online advertised openings were 4.27 million in September, 2007. The market declined precipitously in December 2008 and January 2009, making the average number of advertised positions about 1.2 million less than 2008's monthly average of 4.5 million.
"Online job demand has held relatively steady at around 3.3 million advertised vacancies per month for the last six months," Gad Levanon, senior economist at the Conference Board, said in a statement.
"While we are not seeing declines, the sluggish nature of labor demand is another indication that the path to recovery is likely to remain a long haul," Information Week reported.
On the national scene, according to the Conference Board, more than four unemployed persons are competing for every online advertised opening.
Jobs in sales and related occupations are the brightest spots, with about 375,000 vacancies in July, up 11,700. Management openings were followed by 9,400 openings.
Other strong categories include healthcare practitioners and the broad category of arts, design, entertainment, sports and media, according to Information Week.
