USA Today now sold at Starbucks

Posted by Savita Sauvin on March 16, 2010 at 9:20 PM
Starbucks coffee shops began selling USA Today across the United States yesterday. In an attempt to overcome last year's 4 percent circulation decline and 28 percent advertising decline, the Gannett Co. flagship newspaper will be available at approximately 6,500 Starbucks outlets across the country, the Washington Business Journal reported.

Research conducted by Starbucks indicates that its customers "enjoy getting their news from national newspapers," and the offering is "a direct response to consumers' trends of news consumption," Seattle Business Journal reported.
The Starbucks customers will now be able to choose from USA Today, The New York Times or another local newspaper, according to a press release posted by PRNewswire.

"Starbucks customers have a high level of interest in staying current in national and global affairs and often look to newspapers as their way to stay connected. We look forward to being a part of the Starbucks experience that is enjoyed by millions across the country each day," David L. Hunke, president and publisher of USA TODAY, stated in.

Cliff Burrows, president of Starbucks Coffee U.S, stated in a press release that the added newspaper offering is just another way for  "our customers to have the opportunity to personalize their Starbucks Experience."
