Robert H. Reid, who has been chief of The Associated Press' Iraq bureau since 2008, has been chosen as the head of the Afghanistan bureau, the The Associated Press reported Thursday.

The restructuring of the Afghanistan offices, which includes the transfer of more reporters and resources to the region, is in response to a greater demand for news reporting from the area.
Reid will also head up the AP's coverage in Pakistan, focusing on conflicts in the two countries as well as the threat of the Taliban's presence in the region, according to the AP article, posted by the Baltimore Sun.

Reid has been reporting from Afghanistan as early as 1979, following the Soviet invasion of the country.
