Daily Mirror raises price by 5p

UK newspaper The Daily Mirror on Monday raised its price by 5 pence to 45 pence, MediaGuardian reported. Competitor The Sun responded by publishing an advertisement that promotes its price over that of the Daily Mirror.

"Regrettably, the price of your favourite paper has gone up today. We, like the rest of the world, have been affected by the credit crunch. The downturn has led to a dramatic rise in production and distribution costs," said Daily Mirror announced on its page 2.
The tabloid, owned by Trinity Mirror, is now the priciest in the country, MediaGuardian reported. News International competitor The Sun stated in its ad that "whilst we report on the rising cost of living, others just add to it," and reminded readers that it costs 30 pence.

The Saturday Mirror continues to sell at 65 pence and The Sunday Mirror costs 95 pence, the same as News International's title News of The World. Last week News International raised the price of The Times to 90 pence, according to MediaGuardian.
