The North Carolina town of Carrboro has lent US$50,000 to its local weekly newspaper, The Associated Press reported. The loan will help to cover expenses including printing, staff hires and expansion planned by the 2-year-old Carrboro Citizen.
The money alotted to the newspaper comes from the Carrboro Board of Aldermen's fund to stimulate the local economy.

Alderman Dan
Coleman said his town is lucky to have a growing newspaper as other papers around the world cut staff.
"I'm very excited that the town is in a position to support that expansion," Coleman said, according to the AP article posted by the Winston-Salem Journal. "I think it's a great thing for Carrboro and a great thing for newspapers."
