The Italian government has announced its intention to reform the publishing industry and has assigned the task to a commission that will draft new legislation.
The key areas include: a definition of a publishing company and publishing product; provisions for antitrust laws, advertising, distribution and copyright legislation; a revision of subsidies and other benefits provided for daily newspapers, including postal and newsprint subsidies; and privacy legislation.
