The new paper is expected to earn €8m a year in advertising revenues and will be distributed in public transport, shopping malls, banks, stadiums, airports and hotels. No more than 10 journalists will work for the 32-page paper. Portugal already has three paid sports papers, Record (circ. 90,000), O Jogo (circ. 47,000) and A Bola. In the future, Diário Desportivo publishers want to expand to 200,000 copies by also distributing in areas like Braga, Setubal, Coimbra, Guimares and Faro. Maidera and the Azores will be next, while there are also plans for Brasil (2008) and for distributing the paper in cities with substantial Portuguese communities like Paris, Luxembourg, Newark and Toronto.

The paper is financed by a group of which only Subtil de Sousa, ex-director of Sporting Clube de Portugal (Lisbon), is known.
