In IRS 2007 Round 1, nine of the top 10 publications of the country have shown a decline in readership over the previous round. The only exception is Rajasthan Patrika, which has not only made its entry to the top 10, but also registered a growth in readership. Dainik Jagran has retained the number one position among all publications in the country, but its readership has declined by 6.04 percent over the previous round.
This is the second consecutive time the Hindi daily has registered a drop in readership. In the latest round of IRS, its readership stands at 17,100,000, as compared to its previous figure of 18,200,000. Its close competitor, the number two publication, Dainik Bhaskar, is no different. Its readership has declined by 7.4 percent from the figure of 13,500,000 it notched up in IRS 2006 Round 2. It now stands at 12,500,000. The largest read English daily, The Times of India, is out of the top 10 list. Its readership has declined by 2 percent and now comes in at 6,781,000.
