Google explores wireless market

Google is planning to enter the lucrative mobile market, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Google has invested a lot on mobile phone projects, including developing prototype handsets, proposing to operators, and talking with phone manufacturers over technical specifications. It hopes to have products manufactured base on its specification and multiple carriers to offer the services.

Glasgow press strike called off

A strike at Glasgow Herald and Evening Times papers was called off after half an hour earlier today. Staff returned to work after the management agreed a staff member facing compulsory layoff would be reinstated.

"All industrial action is suspended," said National Union of Journalists Scottish organiser Paul Holleran. "We reached an agreement with a form of words on how redundancies should be handled."

French online ad market prospers

France was not a earlier adopter in the Internet era, and French companies were relatively slow to move into the online advertising market.

Now the situation has changed. The Internet penetration and online marketing spending are booming, and France has become the third largest online advertising market in Europe, only behind the UK and Germany. French online ad market will grow nearly 35 percent in 2007, and exceed $4 billion by 2011, according to eMarketer.

Survey: China still falls short on press freedom

China has so far failed to guarantee full media freedom for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. A survey indicated that the harassment of foreign reporters is still very common.

However, according to the Foreign Correspondents Club of China, the situation is much better than January this year, when the government loosened reporting regulations.
