Media baron Vincent Bolloré's two free dailies, MatinPlus and Direct Soir, have secured rights to distribute in the Paris Metro system.
Although the city's first free dailies were launched more than five years ago, the Metro's distribution contract was with the free weekly A Nous Paris, according to Newspaper Innovation.
The contract with subway operator RATP states distribution of the two free dailies will be allowed in 170 to 200 of the 300 Metro stations in Paris, and is set to begin Oct. 15.
In other free daily news, Switzerland now has six free dailies, as .ch launched Wednesday morning, Newspaper Innovation reported. The six free papers are published in 20 editions with a circulation of 1.8 million people across the country.
.ch is being published in different editions for cities across Switzerland, and total circulation will be 430,000, rising to 50,000 after nine months.
The country's latest free daily is already available in 20,000 distribution racks available to commuters, and another part of the paper will be delivered to homes.
