Yahoo Japan Corporation's chief wants to seek tieups with a wide range of mass media, such as newspapers and broadcasters, to obtain more Net-based advertisers.
"We would like to widen our business fields through more business partners that we will seek to obtain down the track," President Masahiro Inoue said in a recent interview with Kyodo News.
The major online portal operator envisions attracting clients for Net-based commercials by helping media companies improve their Web sites with Yahoo’s technology.
“Yahoo Japan is interested in expediting businesses related to newspaper and broadcaster sites since they can bring in many Net viewers,” he is quoted as saying. "Newspapers and broadcasters can distribute news articles and broadcast programs at inexpensive costs, now that the extensive Internet infrastructure has been put in place."
There must be "work for which Yahoo Japan could help newspapers and broadcasters expand (Net-based) operations, although Yahoo Japan is not in a position to take the initiative" to prod them to do so, Inoue told Kyodo News.
“Yahoo will not limit the type of media entities with which it may enter tieups,” he added.
