Portugal's top press distribution company, the Vasp Group, has been putting several international newspapers on newsstands in real time during the past two months; sometimes the newspapers are for sale in Lisbon even before they're available in their home cities.
Thanks to digital developments, The Washington Post, Folha de São Paulo, Tribune de Geneve and The Evening Standard are available in Portugal on the day they're published in their country of origin, with The Post and Folha actually hitting newsstands in Lisbon about four hours before they go on sale in Washington, D.C. or São Paulo, due to time differences.
Switzerland's 24 Heures and the Danish Ekstra Bladet are now also available in the morning in Portugal, Vasp announced in a statement. The group has also added three other European dailies recently, bringing the number of international dailies launched by Vasp in Portugal to nine.
To make international newspapers appear instantly, far away from their home countries, Vasp's Digital Printing Services branch brings the papers in Portugal, and delivers them directly to newsstands.
Vasp aims to bring newspaper brands international recognition, thanks to the help of being able to digitally send the newspapers to be printed in another country.
These digital developments are aiding print, not just online.
