Warrnambool's local paper, The Standard, will begin being printed in Ballarat after 135 years. The new operations are set to begin Nov. 10.

Some Warrnambool employees will be offered jobs at the Ballarat plant, while others who are unable to relocate will be offered redundancies, Bruce Wolpe, director of corporate affairs at Fairfax, told ABC News.

Steve Walsh, of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, called the closing “just another nail in the coffin of regional communities.”

Fairfax also plans to close printing plants at Nowra and Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, ABC News reported.
