Yahoo in trouble over jailed Chinese journalist

Yahoo data helped the Chinese government identify and convict Chinese pro-democracy journalist Shi Tao, who has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

So far, Yahoo has taken the position that it must abide by the laws of the countries within which it operates, but now Michael Callahan, Yahoo's executive vice president, is apologising to a U.S. House of Representatives foreign affairs committee, admitting he “provided incorrect information” in a previous meeting, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Washingtonpost.com Thursday announced the launch of a new application on Facebook, Washingtonpost.com News Tracker, which allows users to create personalised news feeds, keeping users updated with the topics important to them.

The application compiles news from The Washington Post and 400 other news sources all over the world.

News Corp. to run Georgia media group

Georgian tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili has decided to hand over his majority stake in Imedi media group to News Corp. in a one-year deal.

Rupert Murdoch Wednesday gained control of Georgia's main opposition TV station, according to News Corp., with a local magnate who pledged to focus on funding an anti-government coalition.

Gannett to launch opt-in, pre-print advertising

Gannett's Newspaper Division will launch Sunday Select, aimed at delivering pre-print advertising directly to targeted postal codes, beginning Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The McLean, Virginia-based Gannett will launch the Sunday-only packet at its 16 largets newspapers in phases throughout 2008.
