The Sun-Times Media Group will lay off 20 full-time and 11 part-time editorial staffers from the Daily Southtown in Tinley Park, Illinois, a Chicago suburb.
The layoffs are due to the merger of the Daily Southtown with Star publications, a twice-weekly paper.
The combined new daily newspaper, to be called SouthtownStar, will begin publishing Nov. 18, said Tammy Chase, Sun-Times Media Group spokeswoman, according to the Associated Press.
Terminated workers will be employed until the end of the year, with full-time workers offered severance pay, she said.
