The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union representing employees at the Vancouver Sun and Province has filed a grievance following a planned restructuring.
Union members are consulting with lawyers to decide what their next move will be, said Mike Bocking, with the union, according to news radio station Vancouver CKNW AM980.
The Pacific Newspaper Group, which owns the two papers, last week offered buyout packages to newsroom staffers. Up to 30 employees will be cut, and positions involving electronic layout will be shifted elsewhere.
The changes are aimed at freeing resources for online and breaking news content for both papers, a spokesperson for Pacific Newspaper told CKNW.
