Trinity Mirror is getting ready to launch a multi-platform mobile service designed to focus on regional news that can be targeted by post code.
The service is designed for “information-hungry snackers,” said Rick Gleave, the newspaper group's head of interactive, according to Brand Republic.
Although the service will only be offered for Trinity Mirror's larger titles, such as the Daily Mirror, to begin with, Gleave plans to eventually offer all the UK's readers with news just for their localities.
In his last position, Gleave was in charge of making mobile content available across News Corporation's national, state and local titles in Australia, Brand Republic reported.
“Just before I left, we were heavily into regional news on mobile and providing content based on people’s postcodes,” he said. “If it can work there, it will work here. There would be even more demand, and we have rich content that we can use.”
Gleave said the new service will “probably” be funded by on-screen advertising, not paid-for content, according to Brand Republic.
