According to the company, the channels feature local news content, commentary and entertainment clips.

The Chicago Tribune's site, for example, allows users to leave comments and gives a count of how many people viewed videos, including a breakdown of the most popular videos. Some of the videos also include advertising, Editor & Publisher reported.

"Working with Tribune Interactive provides our users with relevant local content and timely, reliable local news coverage in some of the largest media markets in the U.S.," said Jordan Hoffner, head of premium content partnerships for YouTube, in a statement.
