The weekly paper, first published in 1952 by Alfredo Gagliardi, currently reaches 13,500 households in the Montreal area, Fox Business reported.

Marc-Noël Ouellette, senior vice president of Transcontinental's newspaper group told Fox Business that the newspaper will continue serving Montreal's Italian community under its new ownership.

Carole Gagliardi, the paper's publisher and daughter of its founder, said Transcontinental has “reassured that the mission and the cultural relevance of Corriere Italiano will be preserved.”

Transcontinental is the second largest community newspaper publisher in Canada.
