Yahoo considers Google over Microsoft

Yahoo would consider an alliance with Google instead of a takeover by Microsoft, Reuters reported Sunday.
The company's management is considering restarting talks held last year with Google about how to work more closely together, according to a source familiar with Yahoo's strategy.
It has been reported that Yahoo has also been approached by several technology, telecoms, media and financial firms, but no official alternative to Microsoft's US$44.6 billion offer has been made, according to MediaGuardian.
A takeover by Google is almost certain to violate industry regulations due to monopoly concerns, although the two companies have talked about a business alliance in the past.
Google on Sunday released official comments about Microsoft's move on the company’s blog - saying the deal raised "troubling questions" over the future of the Internet.
"Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC? While the Internet rewards competitive innovation, Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies - and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets," stated David Drummond, Google’s senior vice-president and chief legal officer, according to MediaGuardian.
In response, Microsoft stated that the takeover would create "a compelling number two competitor for Internet search and online advertising," according to MediaGuardian.
