Independent on Sunday editor: Merging departments with daily unlikely

The new editor of the Independent on Sunday is not ruling out further integration with the paper's daily counterpart, the Independent, in the future, but for now, merging is “not on the agenda,” Press Gazette reported Monday.
“All newspapers are looking at the best way to use their resources in very tight markets. You would be wrong to suggest that it’s not an important thing to look at. From my point of view at the IoS there will be no diminishing of its identity,” John Mullin told Press Gazette.
Mullin said the business desk is the only one that is integrating with the daily Independent, and the heads of each department are still only working for the Independent on Sunday.
“There are no plans to integrate any further as far as I’m aware; it’s not on the agenda,” he told Press Gazette.
Among the appointments he has made in the past month is his hiring of Maggie Pagano as business editor.
“Maggie will have her own dedicated team for Business on Sunday, plus we are able to tap into resources from The Independent. From my point of view that is a net gain not a net loss,” said Mullin, according to Press Gazette.
