Executives at online video service Blinkx will launch mobile photo blogging service NowThen in the United Kingdom today, Brand Republic reported Tuesday.
NowThen began as a tool to be used by employees to visually communicate between their U.S. and UK offices, but became so popular that developers Erin Laye and Kat Malinowska were asked to launch the service to the public.
Laye and Malinowska, both marketing coordinators at Blinkx, will try out the service before selling ads. In the future, NowThen will likely run short advertisements, and a premium service with additional features could be in the works, according to Brand Republic.
To use NowThen, users must register on the NowThen Web site, Nowthen.com, or send a text message to 07983 111222. They can then send photos on their mobiles to a limitless number of mobiles for the price of a standard photo text message. The photo sent as a text message is also saved on the sender's NowThen online account.
The site's users can share, view and update their photos, as well as view their friends' images, and select photos as public or private. A NowThen application is also being created for Facebook, and will allow the images to be viewed and commented on through the social networking site, according to Brand Republic.
